That's never happened in the UFC. On Sunday morning, newly crowned lightweight world champion Islam Makhachev (31) will defend his belt against reigning featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski (34).

Premiere: For the first time there will be a duel between the two best UFC fighters in the world across all weight classes. Who will be crowned king of the octagon?

For his duel with Makhachev, Volkanovski packs more kilos and competes in the lightweight category. The Australian has been the featherweight world champion since December 2019. Will Volkanovski be crowned double champion on Saturday?

Crazy: The 34-year-old was able to win all 12 UFC fights. Volkanovski has been unbeaten for 22 fights. Makhachev has won his last eleven fights. In October 2022, the Russians celebrated winning the title.

Volkanovski: “I love to challenge myself, I love to put myself in that position. I think that's what you should always do in life. If you want to be successful, challenge yourself. This will make you stronger, believe me."

Will we see the Australian with two belts on Saturday night? Conor McGregor (34) did it in 2016 when he was crowned the first Champ-Champ. Only seven fighters could collect UFC titles in two different weight classes. Four of them held two titles at the same time.

"I'm the outsider, but I love it when people doubt me," explains Volkanovski. "I keep proving them wrong, and I want to do the same on Sunday."

How big will the weight difference be? "It's a different force, a different weight class. I'll beat him easily,” predicts Khabib protégé Makhachev.

In addition: In the main co-fight there is a battle for the interim title. As lightweight champ Volkanovski attempts to make UFC history, his next challenger is being determined at the same time.

Mexican Yair Rodríguez (30) fights against Josh Emmett (37). It is the first chance for the title for both of them. Rodríguez was already able to dish out some cracking KO's in the octagon. Is there the next highlight finish in the biggest fight of his career?
